Job Title: Senior Mechatronics Engineer – Systems & Design Lead

Full-time Opportunity | 2-3 days/week in Burnaby | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa


Our client, a multidisciplinary engineering firm specializing in complex electro-mechanical product development, is seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer – Systems & Design Lead for a 6-month contract engagement.

This role involves leading the development of electromechanical products from concept and architecture through detailed design and manufacturing readiness. The successful candidate will combine strong mechanical engineering, electronics design, and systems integration expertise while working cross-functionally to deliver high-quality engineered solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

Mechanical & Electrical System Design

  • Lead mechanical system architecture, component selection, and DFM/DFA considerations.
  • Own electrical system design, including schematic capture, PCB layout guidance, and integration planning.
  • Ensure alignment and compatibility between mechanical and electrical subsystems.

Systems Engineering & Project Leadership

  • Define technical scope, estimates, and work packages for new development efforts.
  • Serve as the primary technical lead during early-stage project phases, including customer engagement and vendor communication.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear engineering specifications and actionable development plans.
  • Oversee system-level integration efforts across mechanical, electrical, and firmware domains.

Collaboration & Design Quality

  • Review and mentor the work of team members to ensure engineering quality and consistency.
  • Support verification planning, prototype builds, manufacturing liaison, and release documentation.
  • Contribute to improving internal design workflows, processes, and engineering standards.

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical and electronics product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complete product design cycles from concept through release.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent mechanical CAD tools.
  • Strong hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB design (Altium preferred).
  • Proven ability to scope, estimate, and plan technical work packages.
  • Knowledge of verification methods, manufacturing liaison, and engineering release documentation.

Preferred

  • Strong systems-thinking skills and cross-disciplinary engineering judgment.
  • Ability to communicate technical strategies and design decisions across teams.
  • Experience coordinating work across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) or eligibility is considered an asset.
