Job Title: Quality Engineer

12-month contract | Hybrid in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa

Our client, a global technology-enabled marketplace and financial services organization, is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer for a 12-month hybrid contract in the Greater Vancouver area.

This is a hands-on engineering role for individuals who approach quality as an engineering discipline rather than a traditional testing function. Working within a value-stream team, the SDET will design and build scalable automated verification capabilities across the software development lifecycle, with a focus on providing fast, reliable, and actionable feedback to engineering teams.

The successful candidates will write production-quality code, modernize automated testing frameworks, develop reusable engineering tooling, and integrate quality signals directly into CI/CD pipelines. A significant portion of the work will involve designing verification strategies for APIs, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and Salesforce-integrated systems, including component and integration testing against real applications within isolated containerized environments.

This role is best suited to a strong software engineer with deep test automation expertise who is comfortable moving between application code, automated testing frameworks, CI/CD infrastructure, developer tooling, and operational troubleshooting. The emphasis is on building reusable engineering capabilities that improve quality and developer productivity rather than primarily executing manual tests.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop automated verification frameworks for APIs, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and Salesforce systems
• Build infrastructure that enables component testing against real applications within isolated, containerized environments using appropriate stubbed dependencies
• Develop automated verification for API contracts, service behaviour, and asynchronous messaging workflows
• Test and validate event-driven integrations, including Kafka producers and consumers
• Build reusable testing frameworks, utilities, patterns, and developer tooling that can be consistently adopted across engineering teams
• Integrate automated verification and quality gates into pull request, merge, release, and deployment pipelines
• Determine where different quality signals should be incorporated throughout the delivery lifecycle, balancing confidence, speed, maintainability, and cost
• Modernize existing testing platforms and frameworks to improve scalability and reduce maintenance overhead
• Treat CI/CD pipelines as engineering products, with a focus on performance, reliability, resource efficiency, and developer experience
• Strengthen automated verification across unit, component, contract, integration, end-to-end, performance, security, mutation, resilience, and accessibility testing
• Use production incidents, operational data, and recurring defects to identify opportunities for stronger preventive testing and verification
• Partner closely with software engineers to improve testability, observability, reliability, and maintainability
• Identify and resolve flaky or unreliable tests and improve the determinism and usefulness of automated quality signals
• Apply shift-left, risk-based testing, test isolation, test doubles, and fast-feedback principles throughout the development lifecycle
• Support continuous improvement of engineering and quality practices across repositories and development teams
• Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly while maintaining appropriate engineering rigor and accountability

Qualifications:

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with proven professional hands-on coding experience
• Professional development experience with TypeScript and Node.js
• Strong experience with automated testing frameworks such as Vitest, Playwright, or comparable browser and test automation technologies; BDD experience is preferred
• Demonstrated experience building automated verification solutions for APIs, microservices, and distributed systems
• Experience designing and developing reusable testing frameworks, utilities, and developer tooling
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Docker Compose, and Kubernetes-based applications
• Experience working with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka
• Strong experience integrating automated verification and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines
• Strong understanding of modern quality engineering concepts including the test pyramid, testing quadrants, shift-left testing, risk-based testing, test isolation and determinism, test doubles, and fast feedback loops
• Experience working within trunk-based development, continuous integration, and frequent deployment environments is considered an asset
• Experience with Grafana k6 or other performance engineering tools is considered an asset
• Experience with consumer-driven contract testing, such as Pact, is an asset
• Knowledge of mutation testing tools and techniques is considered an asset
• Experience improving CI/CD pipeline performance and resource efficiency is an asset
• Experience using observability data to investigate application reliability or performance issues is preferred
• Experience working across multiple programming languages is considered an asset
• Experience developing internal developer platforms or engineering enablement tooling is an asset
• Experience collaborating with SRE, platform engineering, or security teams is preferred
